I'm from Chicago and have had some great steaks in my life. This is one of the best eating experiences I've ever had - and I've been here twice now. Very consistant - which is what you'd want in a restaurant. It's located in an old brewrey - ask to be seated in the lower dining room where the kegs used to be kept. You won't get a single bar of service on your phone, but the atmosphere can't be beat. Steak is well seasoned - great beer and wine menu. Service is spot-on.

I came from out of town and thought the place had great ambience, charm, and awesome steak. I had the 8 oz filet and it was perfect. The menu is very small so if you want options go somewhere else. The tamales were just average but you go here for the steak.

Doe's is often recommended by locals as one of the best steak houses in Fort Smith. This says something about the locals and what they imagine constitutes fine eating. If you like spending upwards of $100 for a few drinks and a plate of crap served on plastic dishes, with plastic water glasses, be my guest. Veggies are straight out of a can the the trademark tamales taste (and look) like something bought frozen at Walmart. On the two occasions I ate here the steak was a mess of fat and gristle and virtually tasteless, almost to chewy to eat. There are MUCH better places to eat in this town. My guess is that Doe's is coasting along on a reputation they earned 30 years ago but haven't lived up to in the last 15. As side note, we had an elderly gentleman accompany us on the last outing. The place was so dark he couldn't see and had to be escorted everywhere. I almost fell down the steps myself when leaving the bar because of the cave like atmosphere. My guess in the lack of light hides the fact that there is no decor of any kind to speak of. In a word, AVOID.

Not bad for the price, but not great either. Everything is a la carte; want a potato? $3.50, etc. Steaks are very large, so sharing is basically a must. Decently flavorful, it seems like their meat is often dry... perhaps due to the large portions, but overall never really had a bad experience. Absolutely superb biscuits served alongside each meal. Tamales are not bad. Would recommend the sirloin over the filet if you are debating.

From Boston area down on business and just had a great sirloin steak. Cool building, great food and friendly staff.

Steaks are thick and well marbled. These guys know how to cook to order. One can order tamales as a appetizer, very delicious. Very nice beer selections. The steaks only come in large sizes so either plan on taking some home or bring a friend to split the cut. The biscuits are slightly greasy but also very delicious.

The FSM location is in an historic building just off the main drag. Inside has even more character than outside. I give it 5 stars for the meat; I had the 11 oz filet and it was seriously the BEST filet I have ever eaten; the doneness was perfectly medium rare. I chose the corn crab bisque to start which was chock full of both, light and creamy. Every steak comes with a salad and a side. I chose the house dressing for the salad - salad is not their strong suit. I also chose the green beans; those were a big disappointment ... I'm sure they came out of a can. My colleagues had the fries for a side; the fries are ROCKSTAR! Each dinner also comes with sauteed mushrooms and spoon bread. The spoon bread was light and delicious, the mushrooms were just button mushrooms, but went with the steaks very well! Many of the steaks on the menu are gigantic; the menu recommends 1lb steak per person.

A very pleasant surprise. One of the best pieces of meat I have had. Cooked to perfection. It was unfortunate that they were out of 3 of the cuts that they feature. Menu is very simple which allows them to focus on doing a few things very well. I would pass on the tamales next time. The salad was a bit lacking but the main course overshadowed any issues.. Great place!!

Have had steaks in the finest steakhouses in Chicago, NYC, West Coast, etc. This ranks with the finest.

I didn't have any food, so keep that in mind. Anyhow, the actual building they are located in is perfect; I couldn't have designed a better building for a fun, relaxed restaurant and bar. They had a decent selection of some pretty good beers and the liquor selection seemed well rounded. The only fault I could see was that the bartenders and wait-staff seemed annoyed that they had to actually deal with customers. Granted, we did roll in for a drink 30 minutes before closing, but we were just there for a "one and done", no justification for the stink eye or lack of enthusiasm. I would go back for the sake of trying their food since they do have a great reputation for good chow, but I won't be their advocate by any means unless they tie up some loose ends and get it together.

On a recent 3-day weekend trip to Ft. Smith we were disappointed to miss Doe's. They were definitely on our list to enjoy while there, but they close earlier than we would have expected on Saturday night, and they aren't open AT ALL on Sunday. This, we found, is normal for Ft. Smith. Only chain restaurants who will remain unnamed here were open Sunday. We had looked forward to a late nite and nice dinner on Saturday and came with the budget to fund a good time. When we discovered they were closed then thought we would try for an earlier supper Sunday but again no go. It's funny...we thought we'd go out of town to 'get away from it all'. I think we succeeded. We couldn't wait to get back to it all!

Doe's is situated in probably one of the coolest restaurant venues that I've ever been in. It's an old beer brewery from the 1800s and the original stonework inside is awesome! They're known for their steaks and I was not disappointed! Aged beautifully and cooked perfectly. My mom had the shrimp dinner which was also excellent. However, the ambience and the steaks are unfortunately about all that is good here. The sides that come with the dishes are mediocre at best. My green beans were undoubtably canned. I didn't eat them. Also, I really hesitate to call a place "fine dining" when they serve everything on plastic plates. I mean, it's kind of a slap in the face to have your $60 steak served on a plastic cafeteria style plate. They really need to invest in REAL DISHWARE! Also, service was just okay. They ran out of A1 when I visited, which is just not acceptable for a steak house. I might be back in the future, but only if hear they've improved in these ways.

This is the best place around to get a steak. The steaks are huge and perfect for sharing. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for - Great food and friendly service. Doe's also has an extensive wine list to go with the steak or shrimp.

There is no better beef around town. Period. As a former employee, do yourself a favor and don't order the sirloin- it's tough and cheap. The markup on them is ridiculous. The ribeye is a little more expensive per pound but undoubtedly worth it. The filets are so tender you hardly have to chew them (rare). Also, don't order anything cooked more than medium... Otherwise you're ruining the meat. Would have been 5/5 if the price was a bit lower. I recommend a petite filet, Pittsburgh (or "Burford" as they call it) style, with green beans and red potatoes.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I didn't think this place was worth the trip we made. I am in from out of town and my coworker and I were in the mood for a good steak. From the outside this place is pretty cool. Old and rustic it's former winery and had a nice feel about it. Were greeted promptly by a smiling hostess and taken to the downstairs dining area. Looking at the menu, I was surprised to see very few options. For each cut of beef they had one or 2 options for size and are priced by the pound which is strange. So for instance the T-Bone was 1.5 or 2 lbs and $24.00/lb. The Sirloin was either 2 or 3 lbs and was "X" per lb (I don't remember but it was $$$). They didn't have fish, chicken or ribs so if you didn't want steak you're pretty much SOL. They did have shrimp but our waiter basically said it wasn't good. The salad came first. It was a small bowl and it came from a bag. Now this place comes off as high end and their prices definitely reflect a high end steakhouse and they serve bagged salad?? WTF guys? Chop some damn lettuce and give me my moneys worth...that's just laziness IMO. The steak came next. I ordered the T Bone, and it was low grade choice meat.....for $36.00. It was tough, not well seasoned and just not worth the $$. Again, for the price they charge for 1.5 lbs ($36.00) it should have been better quality. I had the green beans for a side which were OK, again canned and not prepared well for what this place charges. They had these drop biscuits that were served with the meal which were a poor attempt at differentiation. In summary, maybe I just had a bad experience and I don't visit Fort Smith enough to give it another try so I won't be back.

Love the ambiance character and charm of the restaurant, being in an old brewery. The lower level dining room is an amazing setting. Great wine list with generous pours. Definitely plan to split a steak, there is a minimum poundage in place for most cuts. My Porterhouse was cooked perfectly when requested medium. The boiled potatoes were awesome when butter and pepper were added. I also sampled the broiled shrimp from a fellow diners plate and they were well seasoned and cooked just right. Does Eat Place is a great option when looking for a hearty meal in Ft Smith. Worth every dollar paid.

Great steakhouse! Had salad with special dressing ( wet salad). Rolls should be against the law, Couldn't stop eating them. My filet was world class. The redskin potatoes were perfect. Have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. Great staff and ambiance!

I so wasn't expecting to find something like this on a side street. This is by far the most interesting steak place I've been to in quite some time. The entire building is made of stone, a former brewery (Knoble) built in the mid 1800s, that stays remarkably cool inside during the summer heat. It's also pretty dark inside, but once my eyes adjusted, there was plenty of light to see the food and soak up the atmosphere. The bar and wine list is pretty good, much more so than expected. Because we were told Doe's other specialty, besides the steak, were tamales, we ordered a half-order of those as an appetizer. I can see why they were recommended. Perfectly steamed inside the wrapper, they came with a side of the chili sauce that added just enough spice. It would have been easy to make a meal of those. Still, tamales and steak is an odd combination of specialties. Skip the side salad, though. Even with the house dressing, it wasn't that good. The steaks are in various sizes and types, the smallest about a half-pound sirloin and the largest a two-and-half-pound porterhouse that two of the people I was dining with polished off without a single complaint. I have no idea how anyone eats that much meat, but after tasting my small filet, I think I know. The meat was tender and cooked exactly as I wanted. In fact, the front of the menu shows cooking times and color expectations for the various options and those were exactly right in terms of how the steak was cooked no matter what size. I still couldn't eat it all, though. If I'd been a local, I would have taken the leftovers. It was that good and I hate leftovers. There's a bar upstairs and also a patio so Doe's has made it easy to keep coming back. The service here is absolutely perfect. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and periodically stopped by with refills on the beverages. They were never intrusive.

Doe's is our go-to date night dinner. We always request to be seated in the lower dining room. It is an old brewery and the atmosphere of the lower dining room captures that perfectly. It echos loudly throughout the restaurant because of all of the rock/brick, so if you are looking for a quiet dinner you might not like all of the noise. We always order the half broiled/half fried shrimp for our appetizer which is the perfect start to the meal. I have heard the tamales are a must try but I don't like tamales so I cannot speak on that. The steaks are out of this world! We usually split two pounds of the sirloin between two of us and there is always some leftover. If you're a mushroom fan then I would highly recommend ordering at least a cup of the mushrooms to accompany your steak. We order a bowl of them since we both love them. The fried biscuits are very good with some honey drizzled over them. I try to stay away from them so that I have room for my steak but it never works, they're just too good! The sides are very plain but when the steak is the main event you don't need complex sides. They have a wide variety of wines both by the glass and bottle. If you can manage to save room for dessert I recommend the cheesecake. We never walk out of the restaurant without spending at least $120 but it is worth every penny! If you're a fan of live music then you need to go in the Spring/Summer, they have live bands on the patio.

I work for a large company and travel often for work to several major cities. Imagine my surprise when I tried Doe's in Arkansas' River Valley - this is seriously one of the two best steak places I have ever been. The atmosphere is unique, being in a very old building that lends to an enjoyable eating experience. The food, however, is simply amazing and you won't be disappointed with any of the steaks. I usually order the filet mignon and, even though it's served without the fancy accompaniments found at other steak places, you'll walk away looking forward to eating here again. In addition to that, I think a good measure of a restaurant is what they do when things don't go according to plan in addition to the "usual experience." In one visit, I had a food quality issue but the staff were very apologetic, made it right and have gone out of their way to make sure every visit since then has been excellent. I highly, highly recommend Doe's. Don't miss out and the price of the steak is WELL worth the quality that you'll get.

This was by far one of the greatest steaks I've ever consumed. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked so well and was extremely flavorful. The only thing I didn't care for was the side salad (very basic and served in a cheap bowl) and the red potatoes (pretty dry and not very flavorful). As an appetizer, we ordered the tamales (which I found really awkward to have as an option), but they were suprisingly good. They were served with a bowl of a chili-like sauce to put on top. They are made pretty small (not normal-sized tamales), so don't worry about getting too full. Also, during the dinner, we were served these small, muffin-like rolls that were AMAZING, especially when paired with honey. The prices were a little high, but for the quality of steak, I can somewhat understand. I just wish the sides served with the meal were a little higher quality.

I'm very mixed about Doe's. I think ultimately it comes down to price in relation to quality of food. The food was good....but for $93 for two people it was not AMAZING! But what can you expect from a meat and potato's type restaurant? The steaks are ENORMOUS!!! 1-2lb cuts available and frankly, I feel it's all too pretentious. Seriously, women eat here, too, folks. Women do not want a steak big enough to feed a family of at least four. At least they give you the option of splitting it, but even still, that's entierly too much steak. If you want a small steak you have to spend a FORTUNE on a filet. My husband is a meat cutter and worked in the butcher industry his entire adult life and we know what the cost of a steak is. These steaks are VERY expensive. But if price is of no concern for you, and you like an enourmous amount of meat to eat, go for it! I always try to leave some positives in my otherwise not-so-shiney reviews. For a steak that large they are cooked quite expertly. The Southern style dropped biscuits were yummy and the tamales were worth ordering for sure. The building is the true reason we wanted to try Doe's. It's almost as old as the city of Fort Smith is and it's just neat with it's stone walls and floors and tavern type feel. It still has the old horse hitches mounted to the walls outside as well. Price will probably keep us from returning, but at least we experienced it.
